Origami folding techniques

Folds are a set of fundamental directions designated in origami.

It is important to be familiar with these origami folds as these folds will help one understand the origami model instructions. Learn the origami folds to follow the origami model instructions!

The following are the basic origami folds:

Origami Valley Fold

In origami valley-fold, the fold done in the paper is such that it lays over the top of the surface of the paper.

In origami mountain-fold, the fold done in the flap or layer of paper is backward.


Origami Pleat Fold

The origami pleat-fold is a parallel and evenly-spaced valley-fold and mountain-fold in alternate directions.


Origami Inside Reverse Fold

In origami inside-reverse-fold,the tip of the paper tucks between the open sides.  The fold lies between the front and rear layers of the paper.

In origami outside-reverse-fold, the tip of the paper wraps over the closed side of the paper.
